Welcome to the new Manchester Monarchs blog “Puttin’ on the Foil.”
You “Slap Shot” fans should recognize that reference to the Hanson brothers’ pre-game ritual of wrapping their knuckles with tin foil for that extra nasty edge when the gloves come off.

I want this blog to be a two-way street, so if you have comments or thoughts to email me, please do.

As for the game tonight, we’re about an hour from faceoff here at the Verizon Wireless Arena. I spoke with Monarchs head coach Mark Morris before the game and here are his keys to victory against the defending AHL champion Hershey Bears:

- Have a great forecheck and hem them in.
- Shut off their speed in the neutral zone.
- Be alert in the defensive zone and block shots.
- Smart outlet passes from the D end.
