BG squeaks by Winnie and Salem blows out North scoring 60 points. Who is #1. I have seen both teams play twice and Salem is more explosive. BG has better defense but Salem's two backs are ridiculous.

Questions for everyone -
You can only attend one HS final this weekend, which one will it be and why?

Would you pay to see the D1 champ play the D2 champ the following week?

My answers: I will attend the D2 final because I think BG is the best NH HS team we will see in some time. They are a rare collection of talent regardless of how you feel about the coach, the school or there apparent decision to stay in D2 next year.

Yes, I would pay to see a "Super Bowl" between D1 and D2 although I'd rather see a combined division and one true champion. If seeds hold, BG vs. Salem would be great!

Great job this year Marc!

JohnD,

That wasn't an anti-Londonderry statement but rather a nod to how physically imposing Londonderry was at the end of the season. They were likely the only team that matched up with Central physically in the trenches. It'll be interesting to see whether Central can match up with North's spread offense. I doubt North can stop Central's run game so other than the game clock and offensive mistakes, what is going to stop either offense?

Just curious, why do you say everyone is happy Londonderry didn't get the invite?

Joey, I know for a fact they were all healthy in the first GAME (not scrimmage) vs. Exeter. They held the cavanaugh kid down. Everyone needs to realize that BG is WAY above everyone. I would say Exeter is two and then it is a crap shoot after that...

Steve (and many others),

You need to consider that Central is a vastly different team in November than they were in September. Multiple OL/DL guys were out and they did not dominate the line of scrimmage they way they have the last 3-4 weeks so the Exeter, Nasua North and Trinity scrimmage are virtually meaningless barometers. If you really understand the rosters of the D1 teams, you can well understand some of the seemingly bizarre scores. Salem's and Nahua North's playmaker(s) have basically been healthy all year. The same has not been true for Londonderry (Joey McLaughlin) & Pinkerton (Eric Guinto) for about half the season. As soon as Central returned their interior muscle, their running game with Mike Cavanaugh has dominated. None of the D1 teams in 2009 is deep enough to withstand significant injuries & illnesses and this season has been loaded with them. The D1 playoffs are a complete crap-shoot (and everyone is pretty happy Londonderry didn't get an invite).

BG tried to schedule Xaverian but they couldn't come together on dates, whereas, it worked out with CM. Winnicunnet is on a roll and I wouldn't be suprised if they beat Exeter this week.

The common opponents argument holds zero water...if you think Salem put in even a modicum of effort in that Central game you're on some really good drugs.

I would love to see BG take on a traditional Northeast power. Too bad Pinkerton is having a down year by their standards. BG needs to play a Brockton, Don Bosco prep (NJ), or Xaverian to truly test their mettle this year. I know that Exeter does not "mail it in" for any game, so the 42-0 score is awful telling. BG is in a whole different world than these other NH teams.

Also, MT, I think you get it right in the poll this week...although Winnacunnett over Plymouth and Souhegan?

Marc, common opponents say Exeter is better than Salem. How can you dispute that when exeter beat central and central just whooped Salem. I would say it is BG then all the rest.
