Buckley is blind

State Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley just issued a press release attacking Jeb Bradley, who has announced his intention to run for the state Senate seat formerly held by Joe Kenney. Among Buckley’s criticisms of Bradley: “He has voted for record deficits and drunken-sailor spending.”

I guess Ray hasn’t seen his own Democratic President’s proposed budget, which at $3.6 trillion consumes 2 percent more of Gross Domestic Product than the current federal budget does, and which is financed by $1.75 trillion in deficit spending. (Actually, it’ll be closer to $2 trillion because Obama’s budget forecasts a much better economy than exists right now and than economists predict for the year.) Obama’s deficit is 12.7 percent of GDP. That’s more than twice the largest deficit FDR ever produced during the New Deal. It is the largest since World War II. And Buckley is still going on about Bush’s “record deficits.”

To miss “drunken sailor” spending and historic deficits that size, you’d have to be blind — willfully or otherwise.
